The game starts with Citan presented as a decent, affectionate, if a bit scatterbrained tinkerer and doctor who lives outside of the town of Lahan in the mountains to the north with his wife and child. The plot actually begins when after having dinner with Fei (whom had come to visit him on an errand), he and Fei see gears in the sky headed toward the village. They race to it only to find it under attack and after an unfortunate event involving Fei and an abandoned gear, the village is pretty much destroyed along with a goodly bit of its population. Understandably, Citan explains it might be best for Fei to leave for the woods and enter Aveh, the next country over and vanish for a while.

Fei leaves and Citan settles things with his wife so that the villagers are taken care of as well as taken to safety. After that has been settled, he leaves with the gear which was the source of the entire trouble and heads to find Fei. Upon finding the boy, he notes the company the boy is keeping and once Fei is asleep, advises the girl to leave and return home, revealing in the process he can speak the same language she does and that he is even possibly originally from the same location that she's from. She takes his advice and leaves and shortly after Fei and the doc have a talk about the political situation of the countries they're traveling through and to. They then head off to get parts to repair the gear that Citan brought with him and soon after reaching Dazil, find there's no parts to be had and soon after Citan figures the logical place to get parts is from the wreckage left over from the warzone between the two countries gears.

Its during this that the two are caught by the Aveh military and then later are ambushed and captured by Sand Pirates. Citan and Fei are separated a bit after the pirate attack and later rejoin company back at the pirate's lair in the mountains at the edge of the desert. There they're told the identity of the pirates and asked for their aid which they agree (eventually) to give. Entering the capital of Aveh, they figure out the best way to do what they desire to do and act on it. While their plan is a success, it doesn't quite go as smoothly as it hoped for and Citan ends up having to do some behind the scenes work, again revealing that he something quite more than he first appeared to be. However his actions allow the group to make good their getaway and return to the pirate's ship, Yggdrasil. They head for the country of Nisan then to return the lady which they just rescued back to where she belongs.

Soon after they arrive and are shown around the place, both Sigurd, the First mate of the pirate group and Citan reveal to Fei and Bart that they came from Solaris and thus they know Ramsus, the man which threw a wrench into their rescue efforts. The two also explain a bit about Solarian beliefs and the city.

With the rescue a success, the pirates decide they want to reclaim the capital and restore the rightful ruler to power. Plans are made to this effect and during them Citan over hears the rightful ruler (Bart) having second thoughts on if he actually wants the throne or not. Nonetheless, the plan is put into motion.

Unfortunately the plan fails and the Yggdrasil suffers damage at the hands of ID's gear after ID defeats Ramsus and then challenges Bart. Citan escapes the situation via an escape pod and lands not far from the Kislev border, next to wreckage also caused by ID which he recognizes.

Citan shows up again inside Nortune, the capital of Kislev, much to Fei's surprise as a new doctor. He locates Fei and after some debate they go about the only current method they can think of to get Fei free of the city which has imprisoned the boy. Fei manages to win his freedom eventually, but things go sour when Solaris launches an attack on Nortune. While Citan and another friend they've made in the city work to evacuate the city, Fei and others seek to fight off the attackers and keep them from destroying the city.

After they're successful in saving the city, they head off out of town to check out (and then snatch) a giant ship recently found by Kislev. Citan is able to pilot the ship away from Kislev out over the ocean, but unfortunately the ride isn't all that smooth as they find themselves under attack, not once but twice. Ironically their second attacker is none other than the pirates, or rather Bart, once more. Unfortunately for Bart, the stolen ship crashes into the new Yggdrasil.

The group that was on the ship are separated now, Citan waking up on the Yggdrasil and Fei lost at sea with Elly. The two are rescued and reunited eventually, but due to events which occurred before they came back together, the Yggdrasil suffers and soon after Fei is seriously injured and Citan and the rest are forced to see aid for him. They find a young man named Billy who is part of a group called the Ethos, he brings them to the Ethos HQ and the people there take Fei under their care. While they're working on Fei, it is revealed that Billy has a history with Sigurd, and that his father is good friends with both Citan and Sigurd. Soon the party is asked to aid Billy in a mission of his, Citan and another accompany the boy to a nearby ship which has creatures called Wels on it. They defeat the Wels as well as one by the name of Bloody. Shortly after this the ship they're on is attacked by a giant Wel, and Billy summons his own gear to fight it off.

After this they travel back to the HQ to check on Fei, but upon their return they find nearly everyone there has been killed. Upon investigating this, they find out several truths behind the Ethos and are led to an ancient city that is underwater. Returning from the city they're attacked again and once more several unpleasant truths are revealed in the ensuing fight. Once victorious, they decide to head to the city of Shevat via the Babel Tower. While in the tower, they're attacked again, but this time their attackers are driven off by Shevat's arrival. Then the group is forced to fight one of Shevat's defenders themselves before they're allowed entry into the city.

While in the city, the Queen of Shevat asks for their aid and they agree. Citan's wife is reunited with Citan during this time and it's revealed that Citan ordered his wife to bring all of the survivors of Lahan to Shevat. While they're in Shevat, the city is attacked and efforts are made to defend it and soon the attackers are either driven off or defeated. Plans are made to enter Solaris but there are things which need to be done before they can do so. Nisan is attacked shortly after this and the group heads there to deal with it and incidentally locating one of the things which need to be destroyed in order to gain access to Solaris. Upon defeating the man currently in control of the Aveh government, they find notes which reveal the locations of the other two gates which prevent access to the city. With effort the group manages to destroy the remaining two and ends up gaining a new member to their number.

Solaris's location is now revealed due to the gates destruction and plans are made for actual entry into the city, before their departure, Citan's wife returns his sword to him, though he decides not to use it just yet. The plan is put into motion and the party successfully enters the city but are split up. Citan eventually meets up with Fei within the 2nd class area of the city and they attempt to break into the palace and fail. Soon though, Elly arrives and with her aid they manage to successfully enter the palace and travel through it learning about the creation of Wels and the Soylent System. When they reach a locked door, Citan unlocks it and then proceeds to tell them history about the Emperor and the Gazel Ministry. When confronted by Elly on just how he knows so much, the room's lights abruptly go out, plunging the room into darkness and the group is again separated.

Citan is shortly after revealed to Fei to be working for the Solarian government as a guardian angel(re: spy) and that his name isn't even Citan Uzuki but actually Hyuga Ricdeau. Citan interogates Fei and calls him a failure in order to provoke Id into appearing. This is a success and Citan has a short conversation with Id before departing the room. A while later, Fei is rescued and its revealed that Citan did what he did to actually help them despite the appearance otherwise. During this rescue, Citan finally decides to use his sword once again and aids Jessie in destroying the last gate within Solaris and afterward meets with the Emperor one last time and then returns to Fei's group on their escape of Solaris.

Unfortunately things don't go all that well and Id ends up attacking Solaris while the rest of the party escapes the destruction and flee back to Yggdrasil. Citan reveals that Fei is actually Id and that Fei suffers from a Dissassociative Disorder, thus his multiple personalities. The news isn't taken all that well by Shevat which attempts to put Fei into captivity in order to control the power he represents, but Elly breaks Fei out of captivity with aid from Citan and the others of Fei's group and thus leave Shevat.

Sometime after the escape, Citan relocates the two and reveals the situation the world is currently facing and draws the two back into the group to face it. The events that follow eventually lead them to Mahanon, which is part of the wreckage of the original ship which brought humans to the planet. They discover Deus and after a fight manage to defeat it and discover the giant computer the ship held, called Razeal's Tree. Citan managed to access it and gain the knowledge within it, including just what Deus had been just prior to the new threat which unfortunately ended up plunging the group, Shevat, Solaris and the rest of the world into an absolute darkness. Needless to say, the man was quite surprised to wake up, let alone wake up in a completely strange location alone.
